MISSION AND HISTORY
Residing on their own small farm just outside of Memphis, TN, Karma and her husband, Gary, enjoy spending time with their horses, donkeys, goats, chickens, pigs, dogs, cat, and other animals. Their desire to share this joy with others has inspired them to establish the Second Chance Ranch -- a place where people and animals come together in healing ways. As a mental health professional and equine enthusiast, Karma has fulfilled a lifelong dream by completing the EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) certification program in order to offer equine assisted psychotherapy (EAP) as one of the mental health services she is qualified to provide.
Karma is the ranch manager and co-facilitator of equine therapy sessions as the mental health specialist. As a certified EAGALA practitioner, she works with our equine specialist to provide equine therapy using the EAGALA model. Originally from North Carolina, Karma has lived in the Memphis area for over 20 years. She has had experience with owning, boarding, breeding, and riding horses, and barn management for the past 14 years, and is excited to be able to combine her passion for horses with her passion for helping people! Gary, a Tennessee native, maintains the property, handles marketing and business management, and makes sure all the animals are healthy and happy.
Recently, the Second Chance Ranch has expanded to include other counseling services in addition to equine therapy; we now offer individual, family, and group counseling and have added additional mental health therapists to our staff to help provide these services.
Situated on just over 4 acres in Northeast Bartlett, TN, Second Chance Ranch provides a small, quiet setting for many therapeutic activities. Our office is located on site, making transitions from office to farm sessions more convenient and giving therapists more flexibility for meeting clients' needs in the moment. Our 4-stall barn, cross-fenced pasture, and lighted arena are well-maintained to ensure the health and well-being of our animals as well as the safety of our clients.
